Project Management.

Working with Seedling Media

Although we deliver website development projects of all sizes, there are common approaches to work, described here.

Initial consultation

After a phone call, or exchange of emails, we like to meet our prospective clients face-to-face to learn more about their business and their goals. This enables us to recommend the best way to proceed and sometimes offer a quotation for the project.

First steps

For smaller projects, where it is clear what work needs to be delivered, it is usually possible for us to provide a firm project proposal and quotation.

For larger projects, it is often necessary to do some work with the client to discover exactly what kind of project would deliver the best value. This work could be about designing the technical specifications for a website, or it could involve some work around marketing or management. This phase provides an opportunity for the website’s main stakeholders to be involved in the planning—those responsible for the website’s strategy, and those who will be managing and using it.

When this kind of preliminary discovery work is needed, we conduct it as a small, standalone project with its own budget. The result is a detailed plan for the website, clarifying the business need for it and the value and facilities it must deliver. The report will also include Seedling Media’s quotation for the work.

Getting the work done

Should the client decide to engage Seedling Media for their website development project, we draft a contract which details the work described either in the initial consultation, or in the project plan for larger projects.

We ask for 40% of the project’s total budget on signing contracts, and the balance when work is complete. For very large projects, or projects spread out over a longer period of time, we may negotiate a different payment schedule with the client, but we are not able to start work until we have been given at least some proportion of the budget.
